Some of our therapists have received additional certifications in the skills addressed by their disciplines. Call our offices to see which clinics offer the following specialized training services that you may be interested in for your child's needs:

SOS APPROACH Developed over 25 years ago by Dr. Kay Toomey, the SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding program is an effective way to address problematic feeding behaviors in a variety of settings and populations. The SOS Approach uses a transdisciplinary team (Pediatricians, OTs, SLPs, and Registered Dietitians) to assess the "Whole child" including: organ systems, development, oral-motor skills, nutrition, muscles, sensory processing, learning, behavior and cognition, environment. The SOS Approach to the Feeding program examines all of these factors to comprehensively evaluate and manage children with feeding and growth delays, deficits, impairments.

VITAL STIM VitalStim Therapy is a safe and effective treatment for patients who display difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). The VitalStim Therapy System is a non-invasive therapy to help swallowing through the use of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES). Electrical stimulation is used to aid muscle strengthening and muscle recruitment to rehabilitate the swallow. The VitalStim Therapy System is designed as an adjunct modality, meaning a clinician will apply VitalStim while simultaneously working with the patient on swallowing exercises.

BECKMAN ORAL MOTOR INTERVENTION What if the individual is unable to cooperate cognitively, or, due to significant motoric involvement, cannot follow the therapist's verbal directive to "lick your lips," or "move your tongue up toward your nose," or "round and spread your lips?" Many individuals with impaired oral motor skills are unable to follow a command for oral movement. To better serve such individuals, Debra Beckman has, since 1975, worked to develop these specific interventions which provide assisted movement to activate muscle contraction and to provide movement against resistance to build strength. The focus of these interventions is to increase functional response to pressure and movement, range, strength, variety and control of movement for the lips, cheeks, jaw and tongue.

HAND THERAPY Hand therapy is a rehabilitation performed by an OT or PT who has a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience and 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. Hand therapy sets goals to retum to optimal function, range of motion, and strength for patients with injuries, strains, sprains, trauma, or surgical procedures to their hands and arms.

SIZE MATTERS HANDWRITING The Size Matters Handwriting Program is an evidence-based approach to teaching and remediating handwriting.

HANDWRITING WITHOUT TEARS The Handwriting Without Tears curriculum draws from years of innovation and research to provide developmentally appropriate and multisensory strategies for early writing. The program follows research of how children learn best and includes materials that address all styles of learning.

KAUFMAN SPEECH TO LANGUAGE PROTOCOL The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP) is the method at the heart of all of the KCC's speech and language programs. It is a treatment approach for children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), other speech sound disorders, and expressive language challenges. The K-SLP focuses upon the child's speech-motor skills, shaping the consonants, vowels and syllable shapes/gestures from what they are capable of producing toward higher levels of speech-motor coordination, giving them a functional avenue to become an effective vocal communicator.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST Assess for and/or develop adaptive toys or assistive communication devices to help people with limited access to activate typical toys, or for those who need alternative communication systems, ranging from low-tech picture based communication boards to simple switch access, to specialized communication systems.

LAMP Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) Is a therapeutic approach based on neurological and motor learning principles. The goal is to give individuals who are nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities a method of independently and spontaneously expressing themselves in any setting. LAMP was developed out of the clinical practices of John Halloran, MS, CCC-SLP, Cindy Halloran, OTR/L, and Mia Emerson, MS, CCC-SLP. In their interactions with nonverbal individuals with autism, they found that: "Giving individuals access to core words on a speech-generating device, teaching those words in sensory-rich activities, and accessing each word on the device with a consistent, unique motor pattern with auditory feedback provided a means for developing independent communication.

TRANDUCTOR DE ESPAÑOL EN EL SITIO Contamos con un traductor en cada una de nuestras ubicaciones para brindarle un mejor servicio. Spanish Translator on Site We have a translator at each of our locations to provide you with better service.

BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION Many of our therapists have attended training to specialize in working with children with ASD, including basic ABA therapy provision and behavioral management techniques.

INSITE TRAINING INSITE trainers work as a member of a specialized team to address the needs of children with dual sensory impairments (Deaf and Blind) or multiple, severe disabilities.

DYSLEXIA Our speech therapists are qualified to evaluate and treat dyslexia. Several members of our staff have been trained in the Lively Letters program which is a researched-based and clinically-proven, multi-sensory reading program that turns plain, abstract lefters and sounds into lively characters. For nearly 30 years, educators have relied on Lively Letters to accelerate reading achievement and close gaps for struggling readers.

DIR FLOORTIME MODEL The objectives of the DIR Model (Developmental, Individual-differences, and Relationship-based model) are to build healthy foundations for social, emotional, and intellectual capacities rather than focusing exclusively on skills and isolated behaviors.

KINETIC TAPING Kids can benefit from kinesiology tape too! From improving posture to helping leam correct swallowing techniques, kinesio tape in the hands of a professional can make a big impact on kids' health.
